Return to the Scene of the Crime

Sunday October 26th

On Sunday I needed to get in a long run before the Manchester Half-Marathon next weekend. Knowing that the course in Manchester is a bit hilly, I chose my old Boston Marathon training route and set out around noon on Sunday. The 13 mile run starts at Marathon Sports on Beacon, heads down Beacon to Route 128 and then back on Commonwealth Avenue (which at this point is the Boston Marathon route, including the infamous Heartbreak Hill). It is a very hilly route and after two miles I was kicking myself for coming up with this brilliant idea, but after 5 miles I felt good and as I turned on to Commonwealth Avenue (at mile 7), I knew I had this one in the bag.

The last time I was on Commonwealth Avenue was in April for the Boston Marathon. After passing my lovely and supporting wife and family, I had hit the wall and found myself walking up Heartbreak Hill, which was very discouraging.

But on this day walking was not in the cards and I somehow found a great deal of energy. All in all a good day, physically and mentally.

Distance: 13 miles
Pace: 10:28

Distance for the week (10/20 - 10/26): 27 miles
